Nagasaki Fukusai-ji Temple
HOME

Fukusai-ji (福済寺) is an Ōbaku Zen temple in Nagasaki, Japan. Its honorary sangō prefix is Bunshizan (分紫山). Founded in 1628 and later destroyed in 1945, Fukusai-ji has since been reconstructed in the shape of a turtle with an 18-metre high aluminium alloy statue of Kannon, the Bodhisattva of compassion. The interior is famous for the 25-metre Foucault Pendulum which swings over the remains of 16,500 Japanese killed during World War II.
