Alcatraz is a severely disturbed and angry horse, badly mistreated
by and therefore untrusting of humans, having been stolen to take
part in illegal horse-racing and subject to brutality. Amy & Caleb rescued him from a coulee, where he had been left to die. Nobody believed he could be saved - except of course Amy. Failing at first, she eventually sets him free and then finds him out in a field. She
just sits in the grass and looks at him. He had got to know her kindness in the stalls, and eventually succumbs to her charm and patience as he comes over to see her - and then goes off to roll
in the grass, having found at last some peace and friendship.

This is a very beautiful episode ....
