Rather sad that such a pretty girl is so horrid. What would a psychiatrist say? That Olivia is so insecure she has to belittle a perceived (and superior) opponent? She has already goaded Georgie in Maggie's about her being a foster child, and in the arena she lets rip again:
- SHE, Olivia, is not going to Julie Chan's sleepover party because only losers are going.
- Peter is not her real father and so she shouldn't go to the Father and Daughter dance.
- And then the cruncher: Georgie is fat and should stick to floppy jeans to hide it - whereupon Georgie decks her in a glorious moment of karma.
I am a big fan of Peter, but I think he gets it a bit wrong here. First he grounds Georgie unilaterally before listening to her story and later he tries to explain his decision by giving a fatuous and inappropriate business analogy.
Frankly, Olivia got what she deserved - non-PC though it might be. Perhaps it taught her a lesson, since her behaviour improves gradually as time goes by: yet another example of people improving through contact with the family. For me, the sight of Olivia on the sand is one of the funniest and best moments of the whole series! |
