"Mitch & Lou"

I have a lot of time for Mitch .....

  • He is a war veteran, and so a hero in my eyes.
  • But he is probably damaged in some way, as almost all vets are.
  • He also sacrificed the chance to build a career, as Peter has done. He came back having to start from zero.
  • He didn’t make a heavy play for Lou; she was as if not more willing to start up a relationship.
  • She should have appreciated the previous points; he is not someone who deserves to be lead on and messed about.
  • He is hard-working, reliable, tough - and loves the ranch.
  • He gets on well with Jack, which is no surprise, as Jack appreciates his positive qualities - and there is no better endorsement than from Jack.
  • He has been loyal to Lou, unlike Peter, who fell into temptation when away.
  • He has put up with Lou’s indecisiveness regarding their relationship. He has given her her freedom, but she has abused it at times. A really telling point was when Lou gave a speech about all the things she was: entrepreneur, wife, mother, sister, daughter and so on, but as Mitch astutely pointed out later, she didn’t say she was also a girlfriend, which she was to Mitch at the time.
  • She wants Mitch when Peter is not there, but as soon as Peter turns up Mitch takes a completely back seat. He is right to be aggrieved; she is not being fair.
  • Mitch is ambitious, as shown when he decides to buy those cattle on his own when Tim is making difficulties. He is not just a cowboy plodder.
  • Mitch and Lou have a romantic attraction, get on well with each other and both love the ranch.
  • As Peter is never going to want to live on the ranch, it really is a no-brainer for Lou, which doesn’t mean Peter can’t still come to see the family and children.

Lou really cannot have her cake AND eat it!

Mitch: "Am I crazy? This whole Maya thing?"

Lou: "In what way?"

Mitch: "Oh, she's a yogi; I'm a cowboy. She's city; I'm country. She believes in the power of gemstones, and I don't because that's ..... stupid. She is a vegan; she'll tell you it a 100 times. And not only do I like a steak, I'm ... I'm a cattle rancher. It doesn't make sense. And I mean despite all of that .... I like her. I really like her. What do you think, Lou?"

Lou: "I think that when two people belong together it doesn't really matter what their differences are. You know, life has a way of working that stuff out. If you don't let every meaningless detail get in the way. Maybe sometime we get so far up inside our heads we miss out on what the heart really wants."

Mitch: "I hear what you're saying. Thanks."

Lou: "No problem."
