Greenwich Park & the Royal Observatory

As the River Thames winds its way out of London it arrives at the Royal Borough of Greenwich, one of the most precious jewels of the city.

Here you can easily spend a whole day and more wandering about the park, with its magnificent views over London, its mature trees, open spaces, boating pond, teashop, pic-nic areas and children's playparks.

But there are also:

  • the Observatory, full of history and associated with some of the greatest achievements and discoveries in astronomy
  • the Maritime Museum, recording England's great seafaring tradition
  • the Cutty Sark, the famous clipper ship
  • the old Royal Naval Hospital, previously part of the Headquarters of the British Navy, and now belonging to the University of Greenwich
  • the Queen's Palace
  • superb views of the river, with a pedestrian tunnel to the northern bank
  • the landing stage, where you can catch a ferry to the Tower of London and Westminster

It is a "must-do" visit for anyone who claims to know London. Here is a small collection of photos and links that I hope will be of interest.
