ROME - the world's first city with over 1,000,000 inhabitants ........

We spent three unforgettable days in Rome in 2006. It is of course an amazing city, with so much to see. It was very hot at the time, but there are fountains everywhere to fill your water bottles.

I have seen a good number of great cities, but am hard pressed to give a favourite from my top four: Rome, New York, Shanghai and Hong Kong. If pushed, then Rome is probably the number 1 - it is staggering in its evocation of the Roman Empire, when it was the first city in the history of Mankind to have over one million inhabitants.

So much of the past remains, but the modern architecture is also stunning. The only major sights we didn't get to see ( I think ....) were the inside of the Colosseum and the Amphitheatre.
