Diana hears crying from inside her wardrobe .......

Minnie-May:

“It’s not fair. Why do you have to say things that aren’t true and pretend to be who everybody wants you to be all the time?"

Minnie-May:

"No, I mean why do you? Because then I’m supposed to BE like you. Why can’t you be more like your sister, Minnie May?’ Well, I don’t WANT to. And you don’t even LIKE being you; you just pretend. But pretending is LYING, and lying is BAD."

... and she runs off ....

Minnie-May doesn't play a major role in AWANE apart from nearly dying of croup - only to be saved by Anne - and then in the lovely scene above, which is a staggering piece of acting by Ryan Kiera Armstrong. She is in effect telling Diana to be HERSELF.

Diana's expression tells us that she has got the message from her mischievous little sister ....

"It's just the way things are." is very profound, because "Anne with an e" is ALL ABOUT not how things ARE, but how they SHOULD BE.
