Prissy Comes of Age

Mr Philips is telling the flattered and infatuated Prissy what he expects from her in their marriage once they start the "social-climbing"
he is obsessed with; she starts to wonder
if she is doing the right thing.

The unspeakably snobbish and useless
teacher gets his comeuppance when
Prissy jilts him at the altar!

We don't see much of Prissy's mother, but like everything else in this series what we DO see is beautifully done. Of course she is pleased to see her daughter respectably married, but she has her doubts about Mr Phillips - and cannot hide her pleasure when Prissy walks out of the church.

Later Prissy stands up to her father and rejects his condescending dismissal of her ability to take over the company - JUST BECAUSE she is a girl.

Prisy is one of the AWANE characters who really "comes of age" in this series and strikes a huge blow for "feminism"!
